The "Simply better!" initiative for Air MaltaIn an effort to enhance its on-time performance (OTP), Malta’s national flag carrier has engaged Lufthansa Consulting (LCG) to assess all critical processes related to the airline’s punctuality. In the period from September 2006 until January 2007, a team of LCG experts observed all Ground and Flight Operations procedures as well as the Commercial and Maintenance & Engineering areas. The consultants focused on such processes as passenger handling and transportation, aircraft loading and off-loading, catering, cleaning and fueling. Cabin and cockpit crew flight preparations also came under scrutiny. Working with Air Malta, LCG defined a reference model, mapped out individual processes and defined time stamps for monitoring and controlling specific activities. An Integrated Operations Center (IOC) was set up as a central communication point and a professional reporting system was established in order to improve Air Malta’s on-time performance. A list of cost-saving potentials within Ground Operations rounded off the mission. Installation of an IOC is underway and operations are scheduled to begin in June 2007. |
